Baby Shower: Aden & Anais giveaway

Okay… swaddling saved our lives when Ryan was little. Seriously. But my problem? I could never wrap Ryan tight enough–he’d always manage to escape and once that hand came out, the game was all over. I swaddled and reswaddled and swaddled again so many times. I got frustrated so many times.

What didn’t I know? What was I doing wrong?

THE BLANKETS. Did you know that “receiving blankets” aren’t meant to be used as swaddling blankets?! I HAD NO IDEA. And didn’t until recently. Um, can I have a do-over? Could we go back in time, please?

I can’t wait to have another baby just to use the correct type of blanket–it will make our lives sooo much easier.

And that’s where Aden + Anais comes in.

Raegan designed a swaddle large enough to be truly useful to mothers– and not just for swaddling but as a stroller cover, nursing shield, tummy time blanket, or a burping cloth. She found the softest, gentlest muslin she could to fashion them out of. And she started creating colorful, modern prints that would transform this simple tool of motherhood into something stylish and fun for both baby and mom.

For the Baby Shower, we were sent a package of four of the Classic Swaddle Blankets:

They’re made of 100% cotton muslin and are super soft and breathable <– a MUST for swaddle blankets. The “open weave” allows your baby’s body temp to naturally regulate and avoid overheating. The more you wash these babies, the softer they get, if you can even imagine! Um, can they make one in my size, please?

The size: 47″ x 47″. To give you an idea of the other blankets (that don’t work!), they’re about 30″ x 30″.

I also love that these blankets are multi-functional. They’re the perfect material to use as burp cloths and they make great stroller or nursing covers, portable crib sheets, tummy time blankets, stroller liners, changing table covers… and so much more! Really, whatever use you can think of.

They also have an organic and a bamboo collection, sleeping bags, bibs, towels and washcloths, security blankets and a swaddle love book.

Baby Shower: Halo SleepSack giveaway

So I think Steve and I have tried to pretty much blackout the nights with Ryan for the first 3-4 weeks after he was born because of how poorly he slept…and how poorly we slept. It’s not that we didn’t love being with Ryan and tending to him at night in his early days, but the kid wasn’t the best sleeper and we were PARANOID about safety as first time parents! I’m sure others out there can relate. Steve was really good at swaddling, but because I was pretty out of it/immobile at the hospital the first few days (see birth story) I didn’t get a lot of swaddling practice with the nurses.

Ryan was just so squirmy and so strong from the beginning that when we swaddled him without over-tightening the blankets he could escape pretty much whenever he wanted. After a few weeks of struggling we were referred by other online friends to the Halo Sleep Sack. We received ours when Ryan was about 1 month old. It took a few times of practice swaddling to get it down, but it was definitely easier to learn than using a swaddle blanket. After the first two nights of using the SleepSack we ended up ordering two more just to be sure we always had a clean one available!

For those of you who don’t know, William Schmid, founder of Halo, lost a daughter to SIDS in 1991. After that he devoted his life’s work to finding safer and healthier ways for babies to sleep…and we are thankful for his work. We definitely immediately felt the “peace of mind” that comes with knowing that Ryan was the safest we could make him all wrapped up in his Halo SleepSack. Baby Shower: Kolcraft $180 Bassinet giveaway

I am so so so excited to be offering this giveaway! One–because I loooove Kolcraft and two–because I looooove bassinets! Let’s start with Kolcraft…

They began in 1946 in Chicago, making playpen pads for post-WWII babies. They’ve grown to not only become America’s #1 crib mattress manufacturer, but also one of the leading suppliers of strollers (in 1994) and now many more categories including bassinets, bouncers, furniture and swings!

Kolcraft generously sent us the Contours Classique 3-in-1 Bassinet for the soon-to-be parents. They were so excited, what an awesome gift! We used Ryan’s bassinet (also a Kolcraft, but an older one) constantly. Yes, he had a crib, but for at least the first 3-4 months of his life he slept solely in that bassinet (if not in bed with us). It’s absolutely a must-have, in our opinion, and made life SO much easier. We were able to park him right next to our bed and it had wheels so we could easily roll him throughout the house.

For our next, I want a bassinet as nice as this one! It’s fancy! It’s a full-size bassinet, Moses basket and changing table in one. It comes with 2 removable wicker storage baskets and a hanging organizer/diaper stacker. The inside of the basket is quilted and padded and has mesh sides for increased air flow. The wheels on the bottom also lock in place.

It’s made of beautiful and sturdy wood–this thing will be around for ages. Definitely usable for multiple babies! And look how cuuuuuute the basket is:
